Mission and History
The American Council for Québec Studies was originally founded as the Northeast Council for Québec Studies. The first conference took place in 1981. The first volume of Québec Studies published the proceedings of the 1981 conference. The organization's name was changed to the American Council for Québec Studies to reflect the organization's broadly based membership.

The ACQS mission is to promote the study of Québec in the United States through the publication of Québec Studies and the sponsorship of the biennial conference.
